I’ve been watching TED for years, even dreamed to organize one on my own. It’s the reason why I was so excited when I first heard about TEDx OtaniemiED, which took place last Tuesday at Otaniemi Campus, Aalto University. They event created their own website for an one-day-event. Who knows what they plan for their future events (wohooooo <3)
Not too surprised, demand for the door ticket was hugeeeeee! Here’s some figures from the first 12 hours since they publish the event:
- over 1400 people clicked attending on the Facebook event.
- over 113 000 people saw the event on their Facebook
- over 1800 page views on the website
- over 30 applications to volunteer through our web forms
- too many chat messages and bad jokes among the Core Team to even count
- 4 absolutely gobsmacked Core Team members
There was only 100 tickets for the main event and I saw 5,404 people clicked going on their Facebook event page. The organizers therefore created many Satellite Events, mostly hosted by Universities around Finland. TED is such a popular and creditable name: more than 200 people applied to volunteer for the event, to get nearer to the speaker, to get a name on their CV, etc. Now when I’m writing this it makes me want to organize an event for real 😀
I went to the Satellite Event hosted by LaureaES at Leppavaara campus. There were not many people but the venue, sound was in very good condition (We regretted not having brought some pop corn there). Everything is a plus except……………… the speeches. They were interesting for sure ‘cos I could feel the energetic atmosphere at Otaniemi, but they were all in Finnish 
Well that was the only bad point, which shattered my dream pretty much 😦 Just to add in one more thing to the last statement: Now when I’m writing this it makes me want to organize an event in Vietnamese for real 😀
